Teaching Philosophy
I find while teaching it’s crucial to encourage abstract thinking; whether it revolves around solving problems, participating in discussions, generating questions, or challenging answers. I often incorporate diverse authors and artists in my lessons in order to foster an independent voice. This encourages students to develop artistic identities which then reflect in their studio work. I have found that these are crucial steps in artistic development and create a sense of growth, clarity, and community within my students. A harmonious classroom is a key component to my teaching philosophy. I want to make each student feel included and accepted while giving them the chance to grow and learn from one another.
I use strategies in the classroom to cultivate an engaging and encouraging environment. I believe being a teacher goes beyond the educational growth of students within the classroom. It’s important that they find sustainable success and reach their career goals. I take the time to mentor my students and make it evident that I care about their academic growth and post college success.
